Pump selection starts with the required flow and pressure, not just motor power. The pumping water level, route length, pipe dimensions and height difference to points of use are also needed. Manufacturer selection guidance considers flow, pressure and pump application together. T08

Maximum pump flow and maximum head generally describe different points on the performance curve. The two largest figures therefore cannot be combined into one supposed operating condition. Check what the selected model can deliver under the intended conditions.

What does a pump set do?

A surface pump set draws water and supplies a pressurised system. Appropriate suction conditions, a sealed pipe route and manufacturer-specified startup are important. A self-priming pump cannot be left running without water indefinitely: follow the specific model's instructions. T10T13

First check whether the source suits the chosen pumping principle at all. If the operating water level is too low, a larger motor does not turn an ordinary surface system into a submersible one.

What does the pressure vessel do?

In everyday Lithuanian usage, hydroforas can mean either the whole pump set or just its pressure vessel. A diaphragm vessel can reduce pump cycling and provide a small useful water reserve between switch-on and switch-off pressures. Its stated total volume is not the quantity of water available while the pump is stopped.

Vessel volume, pre-charge and control settings must match the specific system. A universal instruction to always inflate it to the same pressure may not suit the chosen control arrangement. Frequent short starts also do not automatically prove that only a bigger vessel is needed; leaks, the diaphragm and controls must be checked.

When is an intermediate storage tank needed?

A clean-water storage tank can separate slower source replenishment from a brief higher demand. It does not increase daily inflow, however. Hygiene, water turnover, overflow and dry-running protection need assessing, along with separate pressure maintenance where needed.

Calculation example: demand is 25 l/min, source supply is 15 l/min and the peak lasts 10 minutes. The theoretical difference is (25 − 15) × 10 = 100 litres. This is only a water balance example, not a proposed 100-litre tank model: usable volume, reserve, controls and replenishment time also need assessing.

Which protections matter?

Dry-running control protects equipment from unsuitable operation, while electrical and moisture protection are selected by a competent specialist. Convenient isolation, access to measurement points and a clear layout are needed. An extra fine filter fitted arbitrarily on the suction side may increase resistance; check its need and location against the manufacturer's requirements.

If the home also has mains water, simply connecting the two sources to one pipe cannot be treated as an appropriate backup solution. A coordinated separation and backflow protection arrangement meeting applicable requirements is needed.

The three most useful inputs for a Santechnikas iš Žemaitijos quotation are a source test, required consumption flows and the future pipe route plan. They support a discussion about a working system, not just a bigger pump.
