Water needle quotations are hard to compare when one lists a metre of pipe, another includes labour with a pump and a third promises all inclusive without defining the scope. The lowest initial figure does not necessarily mean the lowest cost for a properly working water supply system.
This article does not provide an invented price list. The final amount must be calculated for the specific plot, scope and equipment. A more useful starting point is a consistent estimate specification that can be sent to several contractors.
Which items should a quotation include?
| Work item | What to clarify |
|---|---|
| Property assessment | What information is collected and what remains unchecked? |
| Installation work | Which method is planned and when might it change? |
| Pipes and screen | Which materials, dimensions, manufacturer and suitability documents? |
| Source preparation and testing | Which measurements and result records are included? |
| Pump and controls | Does selection cover the required flow, pressure and protections? |
| Water supply inlet | Are excavation, pipework, isolation and connection included? |
| Electricity and winter | Who installs the electrical components and frost protection? |
| Water testing | Who takes the sample, what is the test scope and who pays? |
| Documentation | Who is responsible for design and registration steps? |
| Site reinstatement | Who removes soil, handles flushing residues and restores surfaces? |
This is a suggested buyer's comparison checklist, not one statutory contract form for every site. NGWA likewise emphasises contractor qualifications and a written agreement. In Lithuania, a contractor's right to perform specific work is checked against Lithuanian requirements, not a foreign association certificate. T14
Agree what happens if suitable conditions are not found
Before starting, discuss in writing stony layers, unstable ground, insufficient water or an unsuitable suction level. Does work stop in these cases? Who pays for the test already performed? Are a second location and a changed method ordered separately?
A clear answer protects both sides. Avoid a situation where the customer expects guaranteed water quantity but the contractor has priced only one attempt to lower a pipe. Also distinguish a workmanship warranty from a promise that natural conditions will never change.
What should you receive at handover?
Ask for an as-built installation layout, equipment details, operating instructions and a test record. The latter should state the date, pumping duration, flow, measured water levels and reference point. If the construction prevents reliable level measurement, record that rather than substituting a guess.
Record water quality tests separately, including the sampling location and documentation steps completed. Clear water flowing from a tap is not a substitute for acceptance of the full work.
Assess running costs too
The underground source price is not the entire operating cost. Allow for electricity, testing, pump servicing and, where needed, water treatment maintenance. Assess treatment equipment price together with media replacement and servicing. H07
The Geological Survey's administrative registration or borehole passport procedure is not a price list for the complete installation service. Document preparation and contractor scope must be distinguished from the authority's administrative action. L03
When contacting Santechnikas iš Žemaitijos, the easiest starting point is the plot and water demand questionnaire. It helps discuss a specific system rather than guess a price from the word water needle alone.
